Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Review - Description

VIERA Connect - Panasonic’s IPTV platform VIERA Connect, now under the Smart VIERA umbrella, has been expanded for 2012 Blu-ray  products and now utilizes cloud technology to present an unlimited number of entertainment, social networking, gaming, health & fitness, sports & news sites. Enjoy sites such as Skype, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, You Tube, huluplus, CinemaNow, Vudu, Pandora, Facebook, Twitter, My space, and Flixster. With 2012 models, you have access to a wide variety of Internet content from the comfort of your living room.

24p Output for VOD - The BDT-220 not only plays Blu-ray Discs and DVDs, but also video-on-demand movies content in the same 24p format as used at movie theaters. Connection to a 24p capable TV via an HDMI capable lets you enjoy a wide array of content with full cinematic picture quality. This feature requires a TV that supports 24p playback.

Connectivity - The entire 2012 line features DLNA for easy connection to other DLNA equipped products. Share and enjoy digital photos (JPEG), music (MP3, WMA) and videos (AVCHD, WMV) by simply connecting to a home network (LAN).  VIERA Link provides connectivity to other VIERA Link compatible products and NAS compatibility. The BDT-220 has a Wi-Fi system built right into the main unit so you can enjoy VIERA Connect and BD-Live content without having to connect with a LAN cable or wireless LAN adaptor. Players are also compatible with the NTFS format HDD.

Adaptive Chroma Processing - Adaptive Chroma Processing is a high quality image-processing technology developed to precisely process each pixel of Blu-ray Disc video signals in the vertical and horizontal directions to produce extremely high color resolution and beautiful edges.

Full HD 3D Blu-ray Disc Playback - The advanced 2D technologies of the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory have also been applied to 3D image playback, providing high quality images. 2D-3D conversion enables conversion of 2D images on DVDs and Blu-ray Discs into 3D images with natural depth perception. Screen type (flat or round) and frame color are easily selectable. Watch your favorite DVD movie collection in 3D for even greater viewing enjoyment.

Original Skype Functions - Enjoy communication in your living room with family and friends using the Skype function. Record an original message and use it as your answering video message. The message will play automatically when you receive a phone call while you are away. Callers can record messages while you are away onto an SD Memory Card* so you can watch the messages when you return. *Minimum 512 MB required. Skype requires an optional TY-CC20 Communication Camera that is not included with purchase.

Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Review – Real User Review

Before I purchased this player, I already owned 2  other Panasonic Blu-ray players. They’re outstanding value and performance.
Panasonic BDT220I purchased this model to exchange my horrible Pioneer Elite BDP-31FD; have to be compelled to be among the worst players within the world. Crashed on a regular basis requiring hard reset, couldn’t scan and was sooooo slooooowwww.

In compare, this Panasonic player is so fast. Just seconds to eject and it is so fast to have to almost any disc menu. Most Blu-rays I’ve are loaded to the disc menu in lower than 30 seconds. Scanning over movies is flawless. There are such a lot of other features it offers, which I’ll allow you to read in another reviews. The UI is extremely pleasing. Wireless and wired network connection and firmware updating was very easy (I’ve “g” with WPA2).

THE ONE THING I didn’t do my homework well enough on was determining if it had component video out (1080i) for my non-HDMI HD 1080i tv. I prefer digital audio optical out, which this player has, but I didn’t see within the amazon details whether this player had component video out. Unfortunately, I didn’t see the hyperlink just below the “Product Details” text that shows you this model’s specs from Panasonic, which I learned after unboxing that it doesn’t list component video out as being available. I wish amazon would have had a rear-view picture like a lot of other models do. So, I took a chance that it had component video because my 2  other Panasonic players both have component video. Sadly, I needed to swap out one of my other players (65K model) because of this one. JUST BE AWARE of this if you need component video.

All-in-all, a great player. I’m sold on Panasonic blu-ray players.
